Cincinnati (Ohio) Taft High small forward <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/rayvon-griffith-99102/">Rayvon Griffith</a> has been a big name since eighth grade, dunking in-game. The 6-foot-6 Griffith finished with 28 points and seven rebounds in his game at Flyin’ to the Hoop. He knocked down four threes.



“I can score the ball, pull up, shoot, get to the rim,” Griffith told <a href="https://www.on3.com/">On3 Sports</a>. “I bring energy and play good defense. Whatever the coach needs me to do. The jump shot has come along; I have worked on it. When I was young, I was bigger than a lot of the other kids, so I would just get dunks. My jump shot is becoming a weapon now.”



Griffith is the No. 48 ranked player in the 2023 <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/rankings/consensus-player/basketball/2023/">On3 Consensus</a>, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four major recruiting media services. He played this summer with the Bates Fundamental program on Nike’s 16u EYBL circuit.



“I have heard I play like Scottie Barnes, Griffith said. “I watch a lot of him too; he brings a lot of energy to the floor. I watch a lot of Kevin Durant, bigger players with a lot of skill. I try to put that into my game.”

“I dropped my top ten recently,” Griffith said. “I am hearing pretty evenly from all of them. They have even picked it up some. These schools are my current top ten of the schools that have offered me. I am still open if a Kentucky or a Duke offers, I have been talking to Kentucky a good bit recently, but they haven’t offered yet. I most likely, though, will be committing to one of those ten schools.”

Louisville: “They are just down the road from me, not too far. I was a fan of their teams growing up.”

Cincinnati: “I could be the hometown hero there. I have been rocking with them since I was younger.”



<a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/ohio-state-buckeyes/">Ohio State</a>: “My mom is a big fan of them and their program, both basketball, and football.”



Oklahoma State: “They had Cade Cunningham, and he was the No. 1 pick in the draft. That is the ultimate goal for me.”



UCLA: “They have a good tradition of winning there. (Head coach) Mick Cronin used to coach at Cincinnati, so he has been recruiting me since I was younger.”



<a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/">Penn State</a>: “They got a great culture there; it’s ‘Happyville’ over there. They have been recruiting me since freshman year.”



Arizona State: “They got a good culture, and basketball is big down there.”



Kansas: “They have a culture of winning a big-time program. To pick up an offer from them it means I am doing something right.”



<a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/alabama-crimson-tide/">Alabama</a>: “The way they play fits the same style my high school plays. I feel comfortable fitting in there, and I like them a lot.”



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-griffith-s-take">Griffith’s take</h2>



“I want to go to a brotherhood,” Griffith said. See what the schools have to offer me as a student and an athlete once I get there. How they play me is going to be important. I want to see how they break down my game and hear how they are going to develop me in the long run.”



Griffith plans on taking most of his available visits but does not have any set up yet. However, he does have a target date for his commitment.



“I have not been on any official visits yet,” Griffith said. “I’ve taken four unofficial visits though, Dayton, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Ohio State. I’m trying to commit around my 18th birthday on October 10.”

Rayvon Griffith has good length and great positional size for a wing. He is confident with the ball in his hands, pushing the break or re-setting offense in the half-court. Griffith is a good athlete and, while the jump shot has improved, he is at his best when attacking downhill to the rim. The motor can run hot and cold at times, but he is a high-level wing scorer when he is going.
