Two-way standout Niles Davis breaks down commitment to Cal
Westlake (Calif.) athlete Niles Davis just announced his commitment Cal.
Davis had a final three that also included BYU and UCLA but the Bears were able to seal the deal.
“There were a lot of reasons why I picked Cal but the biggest was having a really strong comfort level there,” Davis said. “It just felt right to me and it’s the school I felt most comfortable on my visit.
“I know they don’t have a head coach in place but I’m confident in the direction they’re going. I talk to Ron Rivera (general manager) all the time and I trust him and feel good about the future of the program.”
Davis is a talented two-way player who could end up at corner or receiver in college. He’s an explosive athlete who clocked a 10.92-100-meters as a sophomore and his burst shows up on the field.
“Cal recruited me as an athlete,” Davis said. “I could end up at corner or receiver but I really don’t have a preference. I just want to play whatever gets me on the field the fastest.

“On my visit, I talked with both Terrance Brown (DB coach) and Kyle Cefalo (WR coach) and I like both guys a lot. I stay in touch with Marshall Cherrington (Director of Player Personnel) too and the whole staff has really made me feel like a priority.”
Davis said he liked the academic fit as well.
“Cal is one of the top academic schools in the country and that definitely excites me,” Davis said. “I plan to major in political science and Cal is a great fit there as well.
“I’m thankful for all the coaches that recruited me and I made sure to call them and let them all know that. I just felt like Cal was the best all around fit and like I said, I’m excited to be a Bear.”
In 11 games this season, Davis caught 41 passes for 618 yards and 10 touchdowns, rushed four times for 24 yards and another score to go with 41 tackles, four for loss, one interception and five passes defended.
