Virginia Tech flips 4-star EDGE Tyson Harley from Penn State
It’s another flip for Virginia Tech and James Franklin. Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga four-star EDGE Tyson Harley tells Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett that he’s also flipped from Penn State to the Hokies.
Harley was committed to the Nittany Lions since July 5, but is now the latest to make the leap from Happy Valley to Blacksburg, following Franklin and a host of prospects.
Harley is the No. 314 overall prospect and No. 31 EDGE in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 recruit out of D.C. this cycle.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder is the fourth commitment of the day for Virginia Tech, following three-star interior offensive lineman Benjamin Eziuka, four-star wide receiver Davion Brown and three-star defensive lineman T-Ron Richardson. Both Eziuka and Brown were also former Penn State pledges. Richardson, a Virginia native, backed off a commitment to Oklahoma on Monday.
In a flash, Virginia Tech has gone from No. 121 in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings all the way up to No. 30. While Franklin has been able to succeed in rekindling old Penn State connections, it remains impressive to see the Hokies form a recruiting class so quickly ahead of National Signing Day.
