Recruiting Roundup: Alabama staff hits the road as portal window opens

The good news continues to pour in for Nick Saban and his staff at Alabama.

On Tuesday — two days after it was announced that Bama made the College Football Playoff — the Tide received a positive update from one of their commitments. Birmingham (Ala.) Parker High School’s Jeremiah Beaman announced on Tuesday that he is “1000%” locked in with Alabama. His trainer informed BOL that he has shut down his recruitment and won’t be entertaining any other options.

Beaman, who committed to Alabama back on May 21, has taken several visits elsewhere since that time. Auburn has hosted him on campus multiple times, including an official visit in late September as well as an unofficial visit for the Iron Bowl. Colorado also got Beaman on campus for the weekend of their Colorado State game on Sept. 16.

In the end, however, no school was able to get Beaman to waver on his pledge.

The No. 10 defensive lineman in the Class of 2024 visited Alabama a handful of times in the summer and the fall. He was on campus in June, late July for their Champions Cook-Out, and for at least four confirmed game day visits.

His longtime trainer, Leonard “Coach L” Stephens, spoke with BamaOnLine after his recent Auburn visit about what’s keeping Beaman locked in with the Tide.

“From a football standpoint, it’s not only the winning tradition; the relationship with Coach Saban, too,” Stephens previously told BOL. “Coach Saban told him, ‘I understand you’re going to enjoy this recruiting stuff, but I sure hope at the end of the day, you’ll come here to play for me.’ I think that meant a lot to him. Coach Saban speaks with him after their home games. Makes an extra effort to have a longer conversation with him.

“Also, the relationship with Coach Freddie Roach. Having a good relationship with the person who is going to be coaching you and building you up. A lot of other guys on the staff, he’s built a great relationship with Coach T-Rob, Coach [Robert] Gillespie, Coach [Holmon] Wiggins… a lot of the coaches on both sides of the football.”

Speaking with BamaOnLine a few weeks ago, Jeremiah Beaman expressed excitement for what he was seeing from his future team on the field. He also continued his praise for the environment that he’s treated to on each of his Alabama visits, and the relationships he’s built with the staff.

Leading the charge for Bama has been position coach Freddie Roach. Roach was a key reason in Beaman’s commitment to the Tide, and he’s someone who Beaman cannot wait to work with.

“I feel like Coach Roach can help me a lot with my development,” Beaman said. “The overall aspect of how he coaches… Coach Roach is a wonderful coach. I think Coach Roach can help me with things I need help with in my game. Even though I train seven days a week, I still have things to work on. I feel like he can help me with that.”

More info on Alabama DL commitment Jeremiah Beaman, including On3 NIL Valuation

Per the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings, Jeremiah Beaman is the No. 70 overall prospect in this recruiting cycle. He also checks in as the No. 7 senior prospect in the state of Alabama. On3 is higher on Beaman across the board as he’s No. 73 nationally, the No. 9 d-lineman, and No. 5 in Alabama on the recruiting service.

He plays for Parker High School, home of five-star Class of 2025 target Na’eem Offord. Beaman is also close with fellow Alabama commitment and five-star athlete Jaylen Mbakwe, another Birmingham area product.

Beaman will also have opportunities off the field when he gets to college. He currently boasts an On3 NIL Valuation of $131,000. That places him at No. 116 amongst high school football players.

The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation calculates an athlete’s NIL value using dynamic data points targeting three primary categories: performance, influence and also exposure.

While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career.
