Alabama is a finalist for one of the top junior recruits in the Lone Star State.

On Wednesday, Daingerfield (Tx.) wide receiver Aeryn Hampton included the Crimson Tide in his top seven. The inclusion of Bama on his list comes just a few weeks after Hampton visited Tuscaloosa for their Jan. 14 junior day.

Also landing in Hampton’s top seven were LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas. Hampton was previously committed to the Longhorns, but reopened his recruitment in late November.

Hampton unveiled a top 10 on December 24, but decided to eliminate Colorado, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and TCU while adding Oklahoma.

Per the 2024 On3 Consensus, Hampton is the No. 59 overall prospect in his class. He also checks in as the No. 11 receiver and the seventh-ranked junior in the state of Texas.

Does Alabama lead for four-star WR Aeryn Hampton?

Although Aeryn Hampton revealed his top schools list this week, he named one school as his leader last month.

At last month’s Battle Miami 7-on-7 event, Hampton told BamaInsider that Alabama was the No. 1 school in his recruitment. A big part of the reason why is the stability at head coach with Nick Saban.

“I’d say Bama is the leader right now,” Hampton said. “Just because of the way they can develop me to become a better receiver. Also, Coach Saban and just the way he coaches.

“With other schools, you might get another head coach,” Hampton added. “But with Saban, you know Coach Saban is going to be there the whole four years you’re there until he retires.”

Not only would Holmon Wiggins be his position coach at the next level; Wiggins is also the area recruiter for Alabama in certain parts of Texas.

The two speak with each other every day or every other day, with Wiggins having high praise for the 5-foot-10, 175-pounder.

“I’m fast and I’m a deep threat. I can take the top off anytime,” Hampton said of Wiggins’ thoughts on him. “He’s a great coach. He has developed some great receivers, like [Jameson Williams] and all of them. I feel like I can go in and be a receiver like that.”

It remains to be seen if Bama is still the leader for Hampton, but the program is sitting in a good spot for his services. They’re hoping to add him to a class that already features elite quarterback Julian Sayin and in-state wideout Perry Thompson on offense.
