ORLANDO, Fla. — Alabama quarterback signee Dylan Lonergan was originally slated to participate in next week’s Under Armour Next All-America Game. Due to a turf toe injury suffered during the season, however, Lonergan will not be playing in the anticipated all-star game.

Even so, Lonergan ventured down to Orlando on Saturday to take in the second UA Next practice. Afterward, he spoke with BamaInsider about what’s next for him in his injury rehab and when he’ll enroll at Alabama.

He also had a pitch for Five-Star Plus+ cornerback and Miami Hurricanes commit Cormani McClain.

“There’s only one place you want to be at, and that’s Alabama,” Lonergan said of his pitch to McClain. “You’re not going to win any rings over there, so come over here.”

Adding the unsigned McClain would be the cherry on top for what is undeniably one of the greatest recruiting classes of the century.

Even if McClain signs with Miami or elsewhere, the Crimson Tide have put together a talented group with high expectations.

“I’m really excited about what we’re going to do for the next three to four years,” Lonergan said. “We’re going to have a lot of fun and probably win a few championships.”

Dylan Lonergan is set to enroll early at Alabama

Unfortunately for Dylan Lonergan, his senior season at Brookwood High School came to an earlier end than expected. Against Parkview in the second-to-last regular season game, Lonergan suffered a turf toe injury that he’s still recovering from.

Lonergan is hoping to be out of the walking boot on his left foot in January, and back to 100 percent a few weeks later.

“It’s definitely been tough,” Lonergan said. “I’ve still been working out a lot with upper body and stuff like that. Really can’t wait to get healthy again and get back on the field.”

Due to his injury and ensuing recovery time, Lonergan made the decision to enroll early at Alabama.

“Really getting that transition out of the way and making that easier,” Lonergan said of what he’s looking forward to the most. “Starting classes, getting my recovery going up there, and beating everybody.”

Of course, football won’t be the only sport that the nation’s No. 11 quarterback will play in college. Lonergan will participate in baseball as well during his time in Tuscaloosa.

“It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m definitely up for it,” Lonergan said. “I’ve been doing it for the last 10 years, so I’m just going to get there and see how all that goes and make it work.”

Before wrapping up our conversation, Lonergan delivered the following message to Alabama’s fan base.

“Going to get there, do my job, and compete,” Lonergan said. “Hopefully win the job at some point and try to lead us to more championships.”
