Alabama has put together arguably the best running back class in the 2023 cycle.

On July 17, the coaching staff earned a commitment from now five-star prospect Justice Haynes. 12 days later, Bama added fellow top-five running back Richard Young to the fold.

During the first day of Early Signing Period on Wednesday, Young made his commitment to the Crimson Tide official. Young, one of Alabama’s most active recruiters in the 2023 class, has officially sent in his Letter of Intent to Bama.

Young took five official visits in June, those being to Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Oregon. The Ducks ended up getting as high as No. 2 in his recruitment and even received an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick in their favor, but it was Bama that ultimately came out on top for him.

Just like Haynes, Young is expected to enroll at Alabama in January.

Future Alabama RB Richard Young‘s Signing Profile

Name: Richard Young

Position: Running Back

Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 199 pounds

High school and hometown: Lehigh Senior High in Lehigh Acres (Fla.)

On3 Consensus Rankings: No. 55 overall/No. 4 RB/No. 12 in Florida

Lehigh head coach, James Chaney, on Young’s skill set (Full Story HERE): “I just think Richard is going to be in a class of his own. I think he is a power guy who can run through you. He’s a guy that can make you miss. He’s a guy who can run away from you. In all honesty, it’s just a blessing to have a generational talent in Richard Young. Just like my high school coaches were blessed with a guy like Deion Sanders. I think he’s one of those types of guys, in all honesty.”

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power’s analysis of Young (Full Story HERE): “With his strengths as a runner, you must begin with his combination of speed and tackle breaking ability. He’s a guy who has the speed on the track and I think it carries over to the field. He runs consistently in the 11-second range, which is kind of a good threshold for running back prospects.

“At his size — 5-foot-11, 195 pounds — he has the leg drive to run through arm tackles at the second level. I think that’s kind of where he excels at right now. He has good balance and can keep generating yards after contact.”
