Alabama WR commit Ryan Williams wins Mr. Football (again), more award winners
Alabama commitment Ryan Williams will never forget the roller coaster month he experienced in January 2024. It started in Orlando at the All-America Bowl where he scored a touchdown in the game. Nick Saban retired the following week, which resulted in Williams decommitment. He re-committed two weeks later to Coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.
He earned Mr. Football, the state’s top honor, on Wednesday.
The former Saraland High School star is the first-ever player to repeat as the Mr. Football winner. He was also named the Class 6A Back of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association during a banquet held in Montgomery.

Williams helped Saraland reach the Class 6A state championship game in 2022 (win) and 2023 (loss). He recorded 71 receptions for 1,320 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season. He also rushed for 269 yards, threw a touchdown pass and returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns.
The five-star Plus+ receiver was also named the Alabama MVP of the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic in December. Williams announced plans to reclassify from the ’25 to ’24 class the day before he was invited to participate in the game. The decision to reclassify, however, had been planned before the start of the season.
Williams wasn’t the only award winner heading to Alabama. QB Reese, three-star linebacker from Ramsay High School in Birmingham, was named the Class 5A Lineman of the Year. Reese recorded 167 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and four sacks during the 2023 season. He will take an official visit to Alabama this weekend- Recent interview with Reese via BOL.
Jay Lindsey, three-star tight end from Patrician Academy in Butler, was named the AISA Lineman of the Year. Lindsey signed with the Crimson Tide in December. He will enroll in the summer. Lindsey visited Alabama this past weekend- Visit Recap
