BREAKING: Maryland ATH is first out-of-state commitment in ’25 class

Zymear Smith, four-star from North Caroline High School in Denton, Maryland, announced a sudden commitment to the University of Alabama on Saturday. Smith, who arrived in Tuscaloosa on Thursday for the start of an unofficial visit, revealed the decision on social media. The two-way standout is recruited to play on the defensive side. He is the first out-of-state commitment in the ’25 class for Alabama.

Smith, who stands 6-0, 170-pounds, received an offer from Alabama on February 14. He quickly scheduled a visit to the Capstone after speaking with Co-Defensive Backs coach Mo Linguist. Smith is currently ranked as a wide receiver per On3 Sports. He is, however, recruited by Alabama as a cornerback.

Several programs have also extended offers including Georgia, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia Tech.

The Maryland native accounted for 640 yards rushing with eight touchdowns, 427 yards receiving with four touchdowns. He also had 22 tackles, three interceptions and seven pass break-ups during the 2023 season. Watch junior season highlights- HERE

The ‘25 Alabama commitment list also includes: Top 100 RB Anthony Rogers (Montgomery-Carver), Four-star DL Antonio Coleman (Saraland) and four-star LB Myles Johnson (T.R. Miller).
