For the third time since the start of August, Alabama has added a coveted defensive lineman to their 2023 class. On Monday, Tyler (Tx.) prospect Jordan Renaud committed to the Crimson Tide over the Oklahoma Sooners.

Alabama Commitment Analysis: What Jordan Renaud means for the Crimson Tide

Renaud becomes the third d-lineman to team up with Nick Saban’s program in this cycle. He joins Edric Hill (committed Aug. 22) and in-state recruit Hunter Osborne (committed Aug. 1) in Bama’s class.

Alabama has long been in pursuit of Renaud, who is originally from Florida. The Tide dished out an offer to Renaud on March 30, 2021, meaning their recruitment of him began when he was still a sophomore.

This year, the coveted senior stepped foot on Alabama’s campus multiple times. Renaud attended the A-Day Game during his mid-April trip before returning to Tuscaloosa a couple of months later for his official visit.

The Crimson Tide did appear to have momentum after that first trip, with BamaInsider’s Joseph Hastings submitting a prediction in favor of the program on April 20. Giving fans some cautious optimism, however, was the fact that Renaud took an official visit to Oklahoma two weekends ago.

Even though the Sooners ended up earning the last visit, Alabama landed Renaud’s commitment without getting him back in town this month. He becomes the eleventh official visitor from June to commit to the Crimson Tide.

Per the 2023 On3 Consensus, Renaud is the No. 67 overall prospect in his class. He also checks in as the ninth-ranked EDGE and the No. 12 player in the state of Texas.

Jordan Renaud talks Crimson Tide: Alabama is “D-Line U”

Prior to announcing his decision, Renaud spoke with BamaInsider about why the Crimson Tide were a finalist for him heading into his commitment. Although he did not outright tip his hand about where he was going, Renaud had some interesting things to say during that Sept. 9 conversation.

He specifically had praise for d-line coach Freddie Roach’s style of coaching.

“I feel like Coach Roach is very hands on,” Renaud previously told BamaInsider. “I like the hands-on thing about him. Like that he is very detailed and very pinpoint about what his message is for his players. I like that he has direction and he knows exactly what the formula is for him to get his result.”

During a recent conversation with On3’s Sam Spiegelman, Renaud highlighted D.J. Dale, Jonathan Allen, and Phidarian Mathis when discussing Alabama’s development of defensive linemen.

Renaud told us that the program’s ability to produce players at his position is appealing to him.

“I feel like, as far as d-line goes, they’re producing d-linemen,” Renaud said. “That’s ‘D-Line U.’ That’s a d-line factory. They’re going to produce d-linemen. It doesn’t really take much; it just takes what’s between the ears.”

BamaInsider will have more coverage on Jordan Renaud’s decision throughout the morning. Stay tuned for an interview with his head coach, an in-depth commitment analysis from Andrew Bone, and much more!
