With the high school football playoff season in full effect, On3 unveiled its updated Class of 2024 player rankings on Monday. Several Alabama commits and targets saw their rankings rise, with the Tide keeping their spot in the top five in the team recruiting rankings.

Mock Class Part 1: Alabama aiming for strong finish (offense)

It is important to note that these are not the finalized player rankings for this recruiting cycle. That last update will take place sometime in early 2024.

In the story below, BamaOnLine takes a look at where Alabama’s commits and targets stand in the updated 2024 On300.

Four Alabama commits remain No. 1 at their respective positions

While there is much talk about Alabama’s recruiting efforts in this cycle and how they’ll finish, there’s no question that the program has accomplished an impressive feat.

Four of their commitments are the top-ranked players at their respective positions in the updated On300. Those are Caleb Odom (No. 1 tight end), Casey Poe (No. 1 interior offensive lineman), Jaylen Mbakwe (No. 1 athlete), and Julian Sayin (No. 1 quarterback).

For context, only two programs have commitments from more than one prospect (non special teams) who is No. 1 at their position: Georgia (3) and Oklahoma (2).

This season, Sayin validated his top QB ranking, which was assigned to him back in September. The Carlsbad High School product threw for 2,369 yards on 74.5 percent completion this fall. He finished the season with 24 touchdowns to just one interception, as well as four touchdowns on the ground.

As for Odom, the Carrollton (Ga.) High School pass catcher has been dominant for the 11-1 Trojans, who are still alive in the playoffs. According to MaxPreps, he has 40 receptions for 684 yards (17.1 yards per catch) and 12 touchdowns this season. Those numbers could be even greater, but Carrollton has eight wins this season of 30 or more points.

Mbakwe has not seen a lot of time at his projected position at the next level: Cornerback. With him being listed as an athlete, however, his production as 11-0 Clay-Chalkville’s quarterback has made a strong impression on those following Mbakwe’s season. That was especially true in their thrilling 36-33 win over Thompson on ESPN in September, where Mbakwe accounted for five touchdowns and 268 total yards on offense.

Besides Odom, all of these Alabama commits are also No. 1 at their respective positions on the On3 Industry Rankings.

Multiple Crimson Tide commits make moves in the new On300

A handful of Alabama pledges received bumps in the latest On3 rankings update. A couple of them became new members of the On300 after previously being unranked nationally.

DL Jeremiah Beaman (No. 99 to No. 73): Beaman’s stock continues to climb. The Parker HS product jumped up 26 spots in the new rankings, and is now the No. 9 defensive lineman in this class. Beaman, who had four sacks in Parker’s playoff win last Friday, could bolster his ranking even more as he is partaking in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Jan. 6.

WR Amari Jefferson (No. 106 to No. 91): Amari Jefferson rose 15 spots in the new 2024 On300. He’s now the No. 16 wide receiver in his class. During the regular season, he recorded 53 receptions for 877 yards (16.6 yards per catch) and 12 touchdowns. That led to him being named as a semifinalist for Mr. Football in the state of Tennessee.

DB Red Morgan (No. 254 to No. 189): The biggest mover for a Bama pledge previously in the On300 was Red Morgan. Morgan, who plays for Central High School in Phenix City (Ala.), received a 65-spot bump in the new rankings. According to MaxPreps, Morgan has 46 total tackles, three interceptions, and 13 pass deflections this season.

DL Isaia Faga (Not nationally ranked to No. 254): Just like his teammate at Central High School, Isaia Faga had a significant rise in the newest update. Faga went from a three-star prospect and unranked nationally to a four-star and a member of the On300. He’s now the No. 24 d-lineman on On3 and the No. 14 senior in the state of Alabama.

OL Joseph Ionata (Not nationally ranked to No. 262): Calvary Christian High School’s Joseph Ionata has gone from a three-star before the season, to a four-star in the September update, and now an On300 prospect. He’s also the No. 15 interior offensive lineman in the 2024 class, per On3.
