Just minutes after the news broke that Bryan Harsin would be fired as Auburn’s head football coach, one of the Tiger’s 11 commits in the 2023 class announced his decommitment.

Gernorris Wilson, a 3-star offensive lineman from Lakeland (Fla.) High has officially opened his recruitment back up.

Wilson spoke briefly with Auburn Live about his decision.

“I completely understand their situation with NCAA and respect the fact that this is how he feeds his family,” Wilson said.

“In fact my goals are to prove I’m a dominant player on any level, and God’s willing to use that as an avenue to take care of my momma,” Wilson said. “That’s why I’m taking the mid-year grad way because I take my future seriously and the goals I have set in place. With that being said I’m blessed to be recruited by such prestigious programs”

Auburn in need of offensive line recruits

With several seniors on the current starting offensive line, Wilson was viewed as an important commit even while being a 3-star recruit. Wilson could be up for a rankings bump from On3 and other recruiting services due to strong senior season film.

Auburn Live reported to subscribers that other schools were potentially looking to make a move on Wilson as well.

Offensive line numbers will be a major point of emphasis for Auburn moving forward. When Auburn hires a new head coach, it will be one of the most immediate priorities on the list.

Two OL commits remaining

The Tigers still have two offensive lineman committed to the 2023 class: Bradyn Joiner, a 3-star interior offensive lineman from Auburn, Ala. and Clay Wedin, a 3-star offensive lineman from Carrollwood Day (Fla.) High.

Joiner was the first pickup of the class and Wedin is the latest to join the class. Both will assess the situation but notated the school as reasons for their commitments.
