Florida Gators gymnast Trinity Thomas has been honored again, this time as the Southeastern Conference Female Athlete of the Year.

Thomas and LSU baseball standout Dylan Crews, the SEC’s Male Athlete of the Year, were selected by the league’s athletics directors.

“Wow! Being named the SEC Female Athlete of the Year is such an honor,” Thomas said in a release. “The SEC is the powerhouse conference of athletics so to even be amongst the names is absolutely unbelievable. I just want to thank my teammates, my coaches, my family, everyone who has supported me in the Gator Nation. I’m so thankful for everyone that’s been along this journey. Go Gators.”

Thomas is a 34-time All-American and the 2022 NCAA all-around national champion.

Per Florida Gators sports information, “a Gator has now picked up a SEC Athlete of the Year honor a league-leading 15 times. Thomas is the seventh Gator athlete to be named SEC Female Athlete of the Year and first since gymnast Bridget Sloan and UF softball players Lauren Haeger (2015) and Hannah Rogers (2014) won in consecutive seasons.”

Thomas, who has completed her Gators career and will be a student coach for the Florida program next season, has too many accolades to list them all. But here are some of the highlights from the 2023 season:

Trinity Thomas had another season to remember

-Led the country for the third straight season in perfect 10’s.

-Thomas becomes the 10th gymnast named SEC Female Athlete of the Year.

-Was the NCAA gymnast of the year for the second time.

-Is the career NCAA perfect 10 co-leader.

-Recorded her 28th perfect 10 at the NCAA Championships this year in the vault.

-Led Florida to an NCAA runner-up finish.

-Earned first-team All-America honors for the vault and uneven bars at the NCAA Championships. Per Florida, she “competed in only two events due to injury suffered in NCAA Regional.”

-2023 Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Year. One of only two three-time winners.

-Thomas led the Gators with 29 event wins (9 floor, 7 bars, vault, 5 all-around, 5 vault, 3 beam). She’s also Florida’s career leader in event titles, with 142 of them.

Thomas will train for the 2024 Paris Olympics while she works as a student-assistant with the Gators.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” Thomas told FloridaGators.com. “It’s one more year of gymnastics. I love gymnastics. It can be as big or as small as I want it to be. I still have fuel in the tank. Let’s see how much.”
