GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Former Florida Gators sprinter Grant Holloway had his world record broken in the 60-meter hurdles this week. Good news for Holloway, he was the one to beat his old world record with a blazing 7.27 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Holloway’s previous record was 7.29. He ran 7.29 for the first time in Madrid in 2021 and then equaled that record with another 7.29 in the semifinals of the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

Holloway, a three-time 110m hurdles world champion, pulled out of the final as he was assured of a place in the USA team for the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March.

“I knew it was going to be a good one after I got out of the blocks,” Holloway said in a post-race interview. “My main thing was just to continue going through with my steps and my rhythm. I wasn’t too upset about it but, you know, 7.27 at a nice track is always a good thing.”

“Glasgow. I don’t have to run the final, I already made the team. I’m excited about that and excited to see what young name will come out here and join me. The main goal at the end of the year is Glasgow. You just have to go out there and execute.”
