Monster Flip! 5-star DL Armondo Blount switches commitment from Miami to FSU
Even after Miami Central five-star defensive lineman Armondo Blount announced his commitment to Miami earlier this year, Florida State’s coaches never stepped back in their pursuit. And sources told Warchant throughout his recruitment that Blount’s interest in the Seminoles never waned.
On Sunday, Blount took that relationship to the next level by backing out of his pledge to the Hurricanes and announcing he instead will be a Seminole.
The elite 2025 recruit made his commitment on social media.
While Miami’s recent struggles on the field likely played a role in Blount’s decision, the five-star also has raved repeatedly about veteran FSU defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins.
“The conversations with him are now more fluent — like he’s already my coach,” Blount said earlier. “With his style, he is a person I could be around outside of football. His personality, he’s not a fake person. Even when it’s not football, he’s the same person.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Blount is the No. 2 defensive tackle in the 2025 class and the No. 4 prospect overall. He is also considered the No. 1 player in the state of Florida.
Blount has had high praise for Mike Norvell and the Florida State program throughout the recruiting process.

“When I look at a school, I’m seeing how that school can develop me as a player and a man,” he said earlier this year. “[Florida State] is one of the top schools in doing this. Every time I go there, I see something new. They stand out the most right now. Just the culture, coaching style … I could go on for days about what they do.”
Earlier this year, Warchant spoke with Armondo’s mother, Val Blount, and she indicated there’s a good chance he reclassifies for the 2024 class, and sources say that still remains a possibility.
