Georgia Football: Dawgs in the NFL (Week 17)

by:Jack Mathison01/02/23

At midnight on New Years, the Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Peach Bowl to play for their second straight national championship, and their third in the last six years. However, just 13 hours after the clock hit zero, former Dawgs took the field in the NFL, including a couple of former players that traveled to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Here’s your Dawgs in the NFL weekly update.

Lorenzo Carter

Carter was one of the few former Bulldogs to take the field in Mercedes Benz stadium on Sunday, and he let everyone know how Dawg Nation was feeling.

Atlanta snuck out a win over AJ Green and the Arizona Cardinals on a last-second field goal, which led to the Atlanta Falcons twitter account trolling the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Nick Chubb

Former Georgia running back Nick Chubb got back into a groove this weekend, rushing for 104 yards on just 17 carries against the Washington Commanders. Since Cleveland has had Deshaun Watson at quarterback this season, their offense has become stagnant while Chubb continues to carry a lighter workload.

D’Andre Swift

Just like Chubb, Swift got back into his groove with a strong showing in the Detroit Lions’ big win over the Chicago Bears. On the day, Swift totalled 11 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown, as well as four catches on four targets for 39 yards and a touchdown through the air.

Tyson Campbell

Early during his freshman season with the Bulldogs, Tyson Campbell picked up a Missouri Tigers fumble and ran it back to the house for a 64 yard scoop-and-score. On Sunday in the Jaguars 31-3 victory over the Houston Texans, Campbell recreated his freshman year play taking this Davis Mills fumble back to the house.

Jake Camarda

Although the play did not count due to an illegal man downfield, rookie punter Jake Camarda may have saved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers season with this play. With a poor snap and a great punt rush, Camarda improvised and got the ball off. The Carolina Panthers would go on to accept the penalty, and Camarda punted the ball inside the 10-yard line on the next play.

George Pickens

Once again, rookie wide receiver George Pickens was able to steal the show despite an incredibly low target share. On the Steelers’ 27 pass attempts, Pickens was targeted just four times, hauling in three receptions for a total of 34 yards, including this ridiculous snag on 3rd and long.

AJ Green (ARI): 2 targets, 2 catches, 17 yards
