Barring unforeseen changes, sources close to the situation tell DawgsHQ that Georgia defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae is expected to join Mario Cristobal’s first staff at Miami as the Hurricanes’ defensive backs coach. Addae, a native of Valrico, Fla., spent one season on staff at Georgia joining the Bulldogs in 2021. Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports and The Athletic was first to report Addae as a target for the Miami job.

*** UPDATE: Pete Thamel of ESPN is reporting that Addae has agreed to a two-year deal with the Hurricanes

Addae arrived in Athens in 2021 by way of West Virginia where he played his college football. After starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant in Morgantown in 2007, Addae spent two seasons coaching defensive backs in 2019 and 2020. In between he worked as a graduate assistant at Michigan (2008-09), coached running backs at Cincinnati (2010-12), served as an analyst at Arizona (2013-15) before coaching defensive backs there for two seasons (2016-17) and finally coaching defensive backs and special teams in 2018 at Minnesota. During his playing career at West Virginia, Addae was a four-year starter, two-time captain and two-time All-Big East defensive back. Meanwhile, as a coach, he led a Mountaineer passing defense that ranked first in the nation for fewest passing yards allowed per game (159.6) in 2020.

Addae took over a young secondary at Georgia in 2021, helping coaching up the Bulldogs into a reliable unit that ended up being a big part of the reason why they were able to bring home the program’s first National Championship since 1980. Christopher Smith took an interception to the house in the season-opening win over No. 3 Clemson, the only touchdown scored in the contest. Derion Kendrick earned Defensive MVP in the Orange Bowl with a pair of picks, before Lewis Cine, who led the team in tackles on the season, took home the same MVP honor in the National Championship Game. Meanwhile, Kelee Ringo capped things off with yet another pick-six, Georgia’s fourth of the season.

While just in Athens for one season, Addae’s impact on the recruiting trail certainly was felt. He helped Georgia land West Virginia transfer Tykee Smith after an All-Big 12 season for the Mountaineers. Then, Addae secured the signatures of four different top-100 players including a pair of five-stars. Signing Malaki Starks, Jaheim Singletary, Daylen Everette, Julian Humphrey and Ja’Corey Thomas, Addae finished among On3’s top 10 recruiters in the country for the Class of 2022.
