Richard Seymour’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction takes place on August 6, 2022.

His first August with the Georgia Bulldogs took place 25 years earlier. Seymour’s career between the Hedges launched him to a decorated NFL career with the New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders.

He looked cool as hell in the red and black, too. Seymour is a cigar aficionado. Tell me this vintage Richard Seymour Georgia headshot doesn’t look like he’s holding a stick off-camera here.

I need that tie, too.

Richard Seymour’s Georgia Connections in the Hall of Fame

Richard Seymour’s Georgia ties also include four other Dawgs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Charley Trippi, Fran Tarkenton, Terrell Davis, and Champ Bailey paved the way.

Seymour’s gold jacket measurements require a little more fabric.

The Patriots drafted Seymour sixth overall in the 2001 Draft. He turned that selection into an eight-year New England career with three Super Bowl victories along the way. Seymour finished his career with the Raiders from 2009-12. Between the two franchises, he registered 496 tackles and 57.5 sacks in his five-time All-Pro career.

Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft weighed in on what made Richard Seymour a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

“Richard was the consummate professional and leader, always accepting the roles he was assigned, putting team goals ahead of personal ones, and in turn, raising the game of everyone around him,” Kraft said.

“As great as he was as a player, he is a Hall of Fame-caliber person as well.”

SEC Dominance set the stage for Seymour’s NFL career

Four years Between the Hedges laid the foundation for Richard Seymour’s Pro Football Hall of Fame path. Seymour landed on the first-team All-SEC list twice. His Georgia career included 223 tackles (106 solo), 9.5 sacks, 25.5 TFL and 35 QB pressures.

Seymour didn’t sweat this moment. He’s too cool for that.

“It ain’t something that consumes me or that I think about,” Seymour told the Shock and Ship podcast last year. “But it’s also about being a competitor, once you get down to that final ten, you want to get in.”

Richard Seymour competed. Richard Seymour is in.
