BOX SCORE RECAP: Hawkeyes take down Xavier

The undefeated start the Ben McCollum era continues. On Friday night, the Iowa Men’s Basketball team took down Xavier, 81-62, moving to 3-0 on the season. They’ll next take the floor on Tuesday against SEMO in Iowa City.
It was a less than stellar start for the Hawkeyes, turning it over five times over the first 11 minutes, while the visiting Musketeers knocked down five threes to stay within 27-25. However, Xavier committed 13 fouls in the first half, which caught up with them eventually. Iowa ended the half with a critical 18-4 run that included seven made free throws and took a 45-29 lead into the locker room. Early in the second half, a Cooper Koch intentional foul turned 6-point possession allowed Xavier to cut the deficit to 47-38, but the Hawkeyes responded with a 7-0 run and the lead never got below 14 points the rest of the way.
Iowa scored 81 points on 66 possessions (1.227 points per possession), while shooting 29-of-51 (56.9%) from the floor, 3-of-11 (27.3%) from three-point range and 20-of-27 (74.1%) from the free throw line. Bennett Stirtz led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Tavion Banks (13) and Kael Combs (11) both scored in double figures. Cam Manyawu also added nine points and nine rebounds.
