Mooresville (N.C.) Lake Norman offensive tackle Ethan Calloway committed to LSU on Friday, giving offensive line coach Brad Davis a key addition to the 2024 recruiting class.

LSU beat out the likes of Florida, Georgia, Penn State and other contenders. He becomes the 18th commitment for the Tigers in the 2024 class, giving LSU a Top 10 class on the On3 Industry Rankings.

Calloway officially visited LSU last weekend, which came after a trip to Baton Rouge in November for LSU’s overtime win over Alabama, and a second trip to campus this spring.

Now, he’s a Tiger.

Calloway checks in as the No. 17 offensive tackle prospect in the country and the No. 215 overall recruit on the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The On3 staff is even higher on the 6-foot-7, 300-pounder, tabbing him as a Top 100 prospect and Top 10 offensive tackle in the 2024 cycle. He’s On3’s No. 74 overall prospect, No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 1 player in North Carolina.

“Expect him to transform his body in year one and fight for a starting job by year two/three at the collegiate level,” said On3 Scouting and Rankings Assistant Cody Bellaire.

Calloway’s the second offensive line commit in the 2024 recruiting class, joining Marrero (La.) John Ehret offensive lineman Khayree Lee.

The Tigers are also the On3 RPM leader for Texas offensive tackle Ory Williams, who also made an official visit to Baton Rouge in June.

On3’s Take on what Calloway brings to the field

The On3 staff is the highest on Calloway among all four major recruiting services, ranking him as the top prospect in North Carolina and a Top 10 offensive tackle nationally.

“Massive offensive tackle with translatable size, length and movement skills,” Bellaire said. “He measured at 6-foot-7, 300 pounds in the off-season prior to his senior season. Has a big frame with plus length for the position. Has measured with a 34.25-inch arm and 10.5 inch hand. A flexible athlete at his stature. Plays with good bend and leverage.”

When it comes to how he’s fared as an offensive tackle, Calloway impressed with his junior film and what he’s showed this offseason.

“He has a flat back in his stance, a people mover in the run game,” Bellaire said. “Leans on defensive linemen and creates a push. Moves well at his size. Shows good reactive quickness in his pass set. Lacks the athletic markers of many other blue-chip offensive linemen and may not have as much room for growth given his ready made size. Will need to continue honing his technical skills including pass set technique and hand placement.”
