Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star receiver Chance Robinson’s recruitment may have had some light drama in the final three months, but at the end of the day, the top-150 wideout always knew Miami was home. He officially became a Hurricane on Wednesday when he signed with The U.

Robinson took an official visit to Ohio State in November after committing to Miami in April, and the Buckeyes briefly posed a threat to the Hurricanes to flip the four-star wideout. Robinson became Miami’s first four-star commitment of the 2024 class when he announced his decision at the Hurricanes’ spring game but received an intense fall push from Ohio State, who offered Robinson in August and quickly marked him as a priority target.

Buckeyes offensive coordinator and receivers coach Brian Hartline became personally involved in Robinson’s recruitment, and he decided to keep his recruitment open through mid-November. However, after taking an official visit to Ohio State and comparing his options, he knew Miami was the place for him.

Robinson also visited Ole Miss in November, but the battle came down to Miami and Ohio State.

“For me, it was really recruitment. It was really (receivers) coach (Kevin) Beard,” Robinson previously told CaneSport. “The relationship I have with him I don’t have with any other coach in America. It was just like, I’ve gotta go with who wanted me from the start. Miami is one of those schools where three receivers will find the yards. It’s development. That’s all I can ask for. We’ve got an O-line there. It’s really just on the skill players and the quarterback play.

“You get the right guys in the right place, you could do big things. That’s really what separated from anywhere else in America. It was coach Beard.”

Robinson finally shut down his recruitment in late November after the four-star wideout had a chance to fully evaluate his schools and lock in with Miami.

“It’s been a journey, but this is ultimately where I chose to go and where I’m going to be,” Robinson said.

CaneSport’s Take

Keeping Robinson in South Florida is a major win for head coach Mario Cristobal, and he has a very bright future. Robinson will enroll during summer 2024 and be available at the start of the fall.
