Just over a day after flipping four-star EDGE Elias Rudolph from Michigan, Miami maintained its recruiting momentum by landing three-star offensive tackle Kavion Broussard, a 6-foot-6, 253-pound prospect from Zachary (La.). He becomes Miami’s 21st commitment of the 2024 recruiting class and the Hurricanes’ fourth offensive line pledge to go along with three-star interior offensive lineman Deryc Plazz, three-star offensive tackle Juan Minaya and center Nino Francavilla.

Broussard chooses the Hurricanes over programs including Florida State, TCU, Missouri and Mississippi State. Miami offered the Louisiana native Jan. 15 as his recruitment gained steam, and the Hurricanes continued to monitor his progress as the offseason continued. He is listed as the No. 40 offensive tackle in the 2024 class and the No. 19 Louisiana recruit.

He took an unofficial visit to LSU earlier this year as the Tigers continued to evaluate the three-star prospect, and he visited Texas Tech last fall. Broussard posted official offer letters from Missouri, Miami and Florida State, among others, Aug. 1.

He comes as an addition to the Hurricanes’ 19th-ranked recruiting class, which is expected to receive an increase in the On3 team recruiting rankings as he joins the team. Broussard made the move to offensive tackle from tight end last season and quickly took to his new position, according to On3’s Sam Spiegelman. He described Broussard as having “a massive frame and long arms for the position, is a high-motor blocker that’s been a massive asset in pass pro right away as gets up to speed as a run-blocker.”

Mississippi State led in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for much of his recruitment before his commitment.

CaneSport’s Take

Broussard comes to Coral Gables as a prospect the Hurricanes have been high on for some time and an under-the-radar gem with awesome potential. His 6-foot-6, 253-pound frame offers a tremendous foundation to build on, although he still has plenty of room to develop. But it’s clear Miami believes it has found a gem in Louisiana with star potential few other programs have locked in on.

His commitment also comes at an ideal time for the Canes. Miami just landed a 2025 quarterback in Alpharatta (Ga.) Milton’s Luke Nickel, and 2024 four-star offensive lineman and fellow priority Hurricanes target Isendre Ahfua recently committed to Texas A&M. Miami’s recruiting class is steadily moving toward completion.
