Through 48 hours of drama, many have tried to exploit the Cormani McClain situation by pretending to know what the Miami Hurricanes commit will do about his college football playing future.

The Lakeland High defensive back has academic issues that are delaying his signing, some have said. He is going to Colorado. He is going to Florida. He is sticking with Miami. He is waiting on a video to announce what he has already announced once.

None of it has been true. And at 6:30 pm Friday, just 5 1/2 hours remaining in the early signing period, there still was no final verdict.

The people closest to McClain and his family, the people actively engaged, have consistently told CaneSport they have no idea what McClain will do.

Well now McClain, who committed to Miami October 27, is running out of time as it relates to the early signing period. Friday is the final day he can sign before the next signing day arrives in February.

“Everybody is waiting on Cormani,” a source close to the situation told CaneSport. Another source endorsed that update.

The cold truth: Nobody knows.

By now you have heard what went down on the Early Signing Day with the orange-and-green waiting on the table where McClain was supposed to sign his Miami scholarship papers. McClain never came to school and a bunch of the kids at Lakeland took advantage by attacking the cake.

FALSE ALARM!!!” his mother, Kaishay, said in a Twitter post. “THERE WILL BE NO SIGNING FOR (Cormani) TODAY…. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE!!!”

And then Thursday came and went without any closure to the situation.

The pressure on McClain to sign early was removed with the word that he won’t be graduating early in January. That’s what led to the speculation that academic issues kept him from signing with Miami. But there was a problem with that. Academic issues don’t keep players from signing. They just preclude ultimately enrolling in school.

This is a situation truly in flux.

Rumors first emerged earlier in December that he may flip from Miami, but he reaffirmed his commitment, saying ““I’m not going anywhere. I don’t know where they got that from. They’re wildin’ out.”

This time around, he is creating the uncertainty himself as everyone waits to finalize the team recruiting rankings for this early cycle. McClain obviously remains a big part of that.
