Michigan State center Nick Samac was taken in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, No. 228 overall, when the Baltimore Ravens selected him.

Samac (6-4, 305), of Mentor, Ohio, was a five-year letter-winner at Michigan State, racking up 32 starts.

Samac was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.k

Samac was honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2023 by coaches and media. He suffered a season-ending leg injury in the Indiana game on Nov. 18, and didn’t fully participate in combine or Pro Day workouts.

Samac was also honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2022.

In 2021, Samac split time with Matt Allen at center.

In 2020, Samac started six of Michigan State’s seven games.

In 2019 as a true freshman, Samac saw action in seven games, including four starts as Allen began to have bouts with recurring injuries.

Samac came to Michigan State as a three-star recruit, ranked the No. 29 player in Ohio and the No. 6 offensive lineman in the state. He signed as part of former Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio’s second-to-last recruiting class.

“I think he’s an ideal fit for a zone blocking scheme because he can combo block, he can get down to the second level, clearing out linebackers,” ESPN Draft Analyst Field Yates said after Samac was selected. “As just a pure power people-mover, that is not his game. But I think in pass protection, he certainly is smart enough to make all the calls up front. The Ravens have a great one in Tyler Linderbaum. Now they have an understudy for him.”
