Michigan State added some much-needed depth at defensive tackle when it landed former Georgia Tech defensive tackle D’Quan Douse on Tuesday. The redshirt senior—who entered the transfer portal on Dec. 29—officially visited East Lansing over the Jan. 5 weekend. Douse has one season of eligibility remaining.

In four seasons at Georgia Tech, Douse compiled 69 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. The 6-foot-2, 290-pound interior lineman started 24 games during his time with the Yellow Jackets.

A member of the 2019 recruiting class, Douse was the No. 1499 high school recruit in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The Savannah, Ga., native was also the No. 138 defensive lineman and No. 135 prospect from Georgia in his class.

Douse held numerous offers as a prospect out of Georgia powerhouse Calvary Day School. Those offers included Central Michigan, UCF, Liberty, Cornell, Brown, Georgia Southern, South Florida, Toledo and more.

Michigan State received more good news at the defensive tackle spot when veteran Maverick Hansen announced his return for his sixth and final season on Sunday.

Starting defensive tackles Derrick Harmon and Simeon Barrow will also both return after brief stays in the portal.

Former four-star defensive tackle recruit Alex VanSumeren is set to return from injury. He will look to develop his game further under new defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa.

Another option for the Spartans at defensive tackle is redshirt sophomore Ken Talley. The former Penn State signee transferred to East Lansing prior to the 2022 season. Talley committed to Michigan State as a defensive end, but he played a bit on the interior this fall as well.

Michigan State’s coaching staff will continue to monitor the portal and high school recruiting ranks throughout the next month.
