Like most programs, Michigan basketball has had an active offseason. But there’s been plenty of good news, including Princeton guard Jaelin Llewellyn’s pledge and Hunter Dickinson’s return for his junior season.

Michigan incoming freshman Jett Howard, too, recently won MVP of the Iverson Classic prep all-star event. He also had a solid showing at the Jordan Brand Classic, even better than that in practices according to ESPN NBA Draft analyst Mike Schmitz

“Great day so far for future Michigan wing Jett Howard,” Schmitz wrote in a Twitter post. “Knocking down catch and shoot 3s with range and confidence in 5 on 5 action. Shoots a really easy ball. Won the King of the Hill earlier. Nice combination of size at 6-7 and shooting.”

Howard remains at No. 34 in the updated On3.com 2022 basketball rankings. Other Michigan signees, however, made bigger moves — and in the case of Tarris Reed, a huge one.

Reed, fresh off an outstanding performance at the Iverson Classic in Memphis (where he dominated in practices), continued his ascent in the rankings. The Bronson (Mo.) Link Year Academy standout started out last summer ranked in the 90s and has since continued to move up. He recently moved from No. 41 to No. 26 in the On3 rankings, the biggest Michigan mover.

The top 20 players are five-stars, putting Reed right there among the best of the best nationally.

From On3’s Jamie Shaw:

Scouting Report: Big and strong post player. Has excellent hands. Soft-touch, very passer friendly. Comfortable scoring over both shoulders. Multiple go-to moves on the block. Has developed counters he is comfortable with. The lateral ability and quick-twitch will be a question. Is explosive when he gets to load. Has range that extends out to three for pick and pop situations. Sets great screens. A tough, active rebounder. Competes. Makes his free throws. Wish he was an inch or two taller. Shooting ability, IQ, and sturdiness could take him far in this game.

He should play as a freshman at Michigan this year.

Fairfax (Va.) Pau VI point guard Dug McDaniel should also play this year given Michigan guard Frankie Collins’ departure to the transfer portal. He moves from No. 70 to No. 65 after leading Paul VI to an improbable title this year. McDaniel averaged 18 points and 9.2 assists per game and shot around 40 percent from long range, huge improvement from past seasons.

His feel for the game, quickness and passing ability should make him a favorite among his Michigan teammates.

Finally, Gregg Glenn remains at No. 133. The Michigan incoming frosh also led his high school team, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Calvary Christian, to a state title March 5, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 4A state championship.

The future Michigan forward’s squad posted a 74-58 victory over Andrew Jackson, a team riding a 23-game winning streak heading into the game. He notched a game-high 19 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots.
