Dusty May To Embrace Nil Landscape & Thoughts On Who Will Fill Out The Rest Of His Coaching Staff

Tweets Of The Day

Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May has been hard at work since accepting the job a week and a half ago. May was in Indiana at IMG Academy’s pre-Chipotle Nationals practice to watch four-star wing Khani Rooths, a former Michigan signee, and 2025 five-star target Darius Acuff, who’s originally from Detroit.

Former Michigan running back Blake Corum will throw out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers game against the Oakland Athletics Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park.

Michigan point guard transfer Dug McDaniel has committed to Kansas State, he announced Wednesday.

McDaniel entered the portal just days after Michigan cut ties with head coach Juwan Howard. The Wolverines have since hired Dusty May from Florida Atlantic.

Kansas State is entering its third season under Tang, after going 19-15 with an NIT berth in 2023-24. McDaniel has two years of eligibility remaining and slots as the 13th-best player in the transfer portal, per On3’s rankings.

McDaniel is one of four Wolverines to have entered the portal since the end of the season, joining sophomore guard George Washington III, junior forward Tarris Reed Jr. and sophomore forward Youssef Khayat.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder led the Wolverines with 16.3 points and 4.7 assists per game in 2023-24. He added 3.7 rebounds per contest. McDaniel shot 44 percent on twos, 36.8 percent on 152 three-point attempts and 77.4 percent from the free throw line.

On the year, McDaniel had 24 double-figure scoring games, with six of 20-plus and two of 30-plus. He hit the 33-point mark on two occasions, in overtime against Oregon and in double-overtime against Florida, both loses.

Quote Of The Day

Things are starting to percolate in the transfer portal for Michigan. May has at least 8 scholarship spots to fill for next season even before knowing what happens with Terrance WilliamsNimari Burnett and Jace Howard and their extra seasons of eligibility.

Players that have heard from Michigan include in-house options George Washington III and Tarris Reed, along with Wisconsin’s Connor Essegian, Colorado’s J’Vonne Hadley, Vanderbilt’s Jason Rivera-Torres, Yale’s Danny Wolf, Louisville’s Mike James, Georgetown’s Rowan Brumbaugh, Belmont’s Cade Tyson and Notre Dame’s Carey Booth.

There is also the elephant in the room of the Florida Atlantic players who could join their former head coach in Ann Arbor. Center Vladislav Goldin and guard Johnell Davis are both in the portal, and most believe that they will play at Michigan should college hoops remain an option. Goldin stated earlier this week that he would test the NBA Draft waters while retaining his college eligibility. Michigan also seems to be in a great position for Wolf and Essegian.
