Michigan Wolverines basketball entered Sunday ranked No. 23 in the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings for 2024. The Maize and Blue vaulted up in the evening, though, after the commitment of Grand Rapids (Mich.) Catholic Central three-star point guard Durral Brooks. Michigan now stands No. 18 in the country.

Brooks chose Michigan over offers from Michigan State, Butler, Dayton and others. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder is the No. 117 overall player in the country and 19th-best point guard, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

Lead recruiter Saddi Washington and head coach Juwan Howard established strong relationships with Brooks and his family. Brooks also grew up a Michigan fan and has visited several times over the last couple years.

The Wolverines passed Texas A&M, Georgetown, Iowa, Nebraska and Florida in the rankings. Michigan started the day with an 86.867 score in the rankings and now have 90.197 points. Five Big Ten teams rank ahead of Howard and Co. — Rutgers (No. 5), Purdue (No. 12), Michigan State (No. 13), Ohio State (No. 14) and Illinois (No. 15). The Maize and Blue are just over one point shy of No. 15 Illinois (91.240) and would likely move into the top 15 with another pledge.

Michigan is one of 13 programs in the top 25 of the recruiting rankings to hold multiple commitments.

Brooks joins fellow three-star point guard Christian Anderson in the Wolverines’ 2024 class. Anderson is the No. 137 overall prospect, No. 22 point guard and 10th-best player in Georgia, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s a four-star on two services and a three-star on the other two, including On3. Previously of Atlanta Lovett School, Anderson is set to transfer to the renowned Oak Hill Academy.

Michigan still has the chance to add to its 2024 class. Here are the latest hot boards on the Wolverines’ pursuits with guards and wings, and forwards and centers.

Here are the top 20 in the recruiting rankings and each team’s score. Big Ten teams have an asterisk next to them.

Durral Brooks scouting report

On3’s Jamie Shaw has a scouting report on the newest Michigan pledge:

Durral Brooks is a physical guard with good length. At 6-1/6-2, he uses a crafty change of pace to touch the paint. While he lacks top end burst he plays with confidence and his head up. Brooks can absorb contact in the paint, getting his body into the defender and creating angles. Needs to tighten the jump shot, become more consistent there, which will open up his entire game. He gives effort on defense, guarding the ball and the passing lanes. He is best defending the ball in the half court rather than the open floor and at his best, with the ball, when he is able to get into the paint. A good passer in traffic, and in the pick and roll.
