Michigan basketball coach Dusty May continued his unbelievable recruiting momentum today with a pledge from 3-star 2024 guard Lorenzo Cason. Cason, a former May pledge at Florida Atlantic, is a three-star out of Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian.

“I chose Michigan because of Dusty,” he told On3. “It’s hard not to want to play for a coach who believes in you. He took me with him from FAU, and I think that’s says enough as it is. The staff is amazing, but I know the culture is going to be even better. As well as the style of play, just getting up and down the court in transition is a huge differentiator.”

Cason also considered Florida and received offers from USF, Seton Hall, Georgia Southern, Murray State, and more. He averaged 24.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game his last year at Victory Christian, including a 57-point outburst in a win over Auburndale. He scored 42 in the second half alone.

“He just has an uncanny knack of just knowing the flow of the game and what the team needs,” Victory coach Steve Fitzgerald told The Ledger. “So in the second half, he just put us on his back and it started snowballing. He gets in that zone and the basket is huge. And he’s not getting easy shots. Their whole strategy is to keep him from getting the ball. Everything he’s getting, he’s having to work. It’s very difficult to stop because he can score at all the levels.”

Cason added 11 rebounds and seven assists in the 93-87 victory.

“Just being around the game for as long as I have, I don’t think I’ve seen an individual performance like that in over 35 years with my own eyes,” Auburndale coach Eric Robinson said. “I didn’t see C.Y. Young and Terrence Barber play. But you as a coach, you’re still trying to win, but after the game’s over you get a chance to watch game film and some of the amazing shots that the kid made with two guys on him, one time three guys on him. He’s just to a point where he was in an absolute zone.”

The 6-3 guard initially committed to FAU last August, but Cason requested and was granted a release from his Letter of Intent after May recently left the program for Michigan.
