Christopher Dunn returning for another season as NC State football kicker

NC State football will have yet another Super Senior on its 2022 roster after it was confirmed that kicker Christopher Dunn will be back for another campaign.
The Fayetteville Observer’s David Thompson was first to report confirmation.
Dunn is a two-time second-team All-ACC choice and was also honorable mention all-conference in 2020. He is the school record-holder in career field goals made (68), extra points (169) and career points (373).
This past fall, Dunn made 12 of 17 field goal attempts with a long of 46 yards and connected on all 47 of his extra points.
For his career, Dunn is 68 of 84 on field goal tries and has made two greater than 50 yards, including a 53-yarder. He’s perfect on his 169 PATs.
Dunn is the only kicker in NC State football with at least 30 extra point tries to have never missed one, and he had already established the school mark for made career field goals made by the conclusion of his junior season. Dunn has a career field goal percentage of 80.95 percent, which is fourth-best ever at NC State.
His 23 made field goals in 2018 is also the most in a single season at NC State, and his 21 successful attempts in 2019 is the second most.

With Dunn’s return, that ensures that two-thirds of the specialists are expected back. Junior long snapper Joe Shimko is also scheduled to return. Redshirt junior punter Trenton Gill, however, elected to not use his Super Senior season, and he instead decided to turn pro.
To help with the competition to replace Gill, NC State is bringing in Towson transfer Shane McDonough, a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association honoree who averaged 41.3 yards per punt this past season.
McDonough will likely compete with rising redshirt freshman Ian Williams, who was a scholarship addition from the 2020. Williams averaged 39.6 yards on 65 career punts at Weddington High in Matthews, N.C.
Rising redshirt sophomore walk-on Collin Smith is another option. Hailing from Eastern Guilford High in Gibsonville, N.C, Smith averaged 42.0 yards per punt and booted 70 of his 83 kickoffs for touchbacks.
Dunn is the ninth Super Senior for NC State football in 2022.
