Terrell Timmons Jr. played in nine games as a true freshman. He caught 3 passes for NC State, including a touchdown against UNC, and averaged 26.3 yards per reception.

When he hit the field for spring practice, the outside receiver knew he needed to take on more responsibility in the offense this year.

“During the spring, I realized that I am going to have to step up and play a bigger role this year,” Timmons said.

The sophomore pass catcher spent his freshman year learning from senior Keyon Lesane, Devin Carter, Thayer Thomas and Darryl Jones. Each of those receivers, other than Lesane, are no longer with the program. Timmons is grateful and ready for the chance to take on his new role.

“I feel like I really worked for my opportunity,” Timmons said. “I kept my head down, I grinded all summer, all winter, all spring. I feel like this is my time now.”

His preparation for the fall started early this year. Timmons met with the staff and discussed his plan to put on some weight during the offseason.

Thanks to director of strength and conditioning Dantonio Burnette, and a healthy diet of overnight oats, he is in great shape heading into the fall.

“I gained a lot of weight,” Timmons said. “I was 174 last year, and I weighed in at 194 this morning, so it worked.”

The sophomore said he is faster now, and his legs feel stronger.

NC State’s receivers room needs to replace a significant amount of production from last year’s squad. Lesane and senior running back Jordan Houston are the only returning athletes who finished with more than 20 receptions.

Timmons is excited about the Wolfpack offense overall going into this season. He complimented Brennan Armstrong and praised his outside wide receiver peers, including redshirt-sophomore Julian Gray, redshirt-sophomore Anthony Smith, graduate student Bradley Rozner, redshirt-sophomore Dacari Collins and Lesane.

“Brennan can really throw the ball,” Timmons said.

After his role expanded throughout his freshman season, Timmons knows what it takes to contribute as a first-year member of the Pack. He sees a lot of potential in freshmen pass catchers Kevin Concepcion and Juice Vereen

“Juice and KC are going to be great,” Timmons said. “Those guys work hard and earn everything they get.”

Fall camp is complete, game prep for UConn is in full swing and the sophomore receiver said NC State’s offense is playing at an accelerated pace this season.

“We have a lot more speed on the offensive side of the ball this year,” Timmons said. “Our offense last year was still great, but the receivers on the outside and the running backs are way faster.”
