After two weeks away from Carter-Finley Stadium, NC State returns home to host Virginia Tech as the Wolfpack looks to return to the win column following its first loss of the season.

NC State vs. Virginia Tech game notes

– Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 28-20-4, but NC State has won each of the last two meetings. The Wolfpack beat the Hokies 22-21 at Carter-Finley Stadium in 2022 before it knocked off Virginia Tech 35-28 at Lane Stadium in 2023. Both programs have played 52 times dating back 125 years, but the foes have met just eight times since the Hokies joined the ACC in 2004.

– NC State’s coaching staff has a pair of connections to Virginia Tech as cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell served on the Hokies’ staff from 2016-19, while defensive line coach Charley Wiles was a staple within the program as he spent 24 seasons in Blacksburg.

– Redshirt sophomore running back Hollywood Smothers leads the ACC with 503 rushing yards, the fifth-most in FBS, through the first four weeks. He is one of five players nationally to have three or more 100-yard rushing games this season — the only in the conference to this point.
