Nebraska transfer TE Ian Flynt commits to NC State

Although NC State’s post-spring practice transfer portal targets have all been focused on the defense, the Wolfpack didn’t stop looking at the offensive side of the ball. That proved to be evident as Nebraska transfer tight end Ian Flynt committed to the Pack on Saturday.
Flynt, who appeared in one game during his freshman season this past fall, picked NC State following an official visit to Raleigh on Thursday and Friday. He is considered a three-star transfer portal prospect, according to the On3, as the No. 30 tight end to hit the market this offseason.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end has four years of eligibility remaining. He adds much-needed youthful depth to the Wolfpack’s position group that coach Dave Doeren was looking to find, helping balance the tight end room from being senior top-heavy. The Pack now has six scholarship tight ends in all: seniors Cody Hardy, Dante Daniels and Justin Joly, early enrollee freshman Gus Ritchey and summer-arriving freshman Preston Douglas.
A former three-star recruit out of Katy (Texas) Taylor High, Flynt logged six receptions for 140 yards as a senior. He also recorded 10 catches for 129 yards and two scores during his junior campaign. Rivals ranked Flynt as the No. 1 tight end in Texas in the Class of 2024.

In addition to his football performance in high school, Flynt was a standout track and field athlete, competing in both discus and shot put. He hails from an athletic family as his sister, Amelia, is a thrower on Nebraska’s track team, while their father, Darren, was on the Huskers’ track team in 1995.
Flynt joins transfer edge rushers Joseph Adedire (Texas Tech), Cian Slone (Utah State) and Sabastian Harsh (Wyoming), linebacker Kenny Soares Jr. (Northwestern) and cornerback Brian Nelson II (North Texas) as additions to the Wolfpack roster since spring practice ended.
