COLUMBUS — Ohio State has made in-state recruiting one of its biggest priorities on the trail, and the Ohioans are taking notice. Carter Lowe has committed to the Buckeyes.

The 2025 four-star Toledo (Ohio) Whitmer offensive tackle chose Ohio State over Michigan, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. Lowe is the No. 13 offensive tackle and No. 172 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle according to On3. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound prospect is the No. 9 offensive tackle and the No. 85 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings.

Lowe wrapped up another game day visit at Ohio State, this time it was for the Penn State game. He previously visited for the Western Kentucky game in September and then for the Maryland game in early October. The in-state prospect had a tight list of things he was looking for in a school, but relationships were at the very top.

“Talking with [offensive line] coach Justin Frye,” Lowe told Lettermen Row. “I love his company, I love to talk to him and I try to get up there any chance I get.”

Ohio State certainly has made the 6-foot-5, 285-pound junior a clear-cut priority in the 2025 cycle. During the Buckeyes’ idle week, both Frye and head coach Ryan Day went to his high school and spent over an hour there. Frye stayed to watch Lowe’s game before returning to Columbus.

That kind of effort is what’s separating Ohio State from the field of competitors all after Lowe’s pledge — including nearby Michigan.

“Building relationships, that means a lot to me,” he said. “How many head coaches do that? I’m just so excited they did that for me.”

Lowe has returned that favor with his multiple game-day visits this fall. Before he committed, Lowe was the prospect who had visited Ohio State the most. Now with a spot in the 2025 class, Lowe truly can visit whenever he wants.

The Buckeyes’ 2025 class continues to grow one pledge at a time. Four-star Bellefontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair headlines the offensive class for Ohio State. Followed behind him is four-star Cocoa (Fla) wide receiver Jayvan Boggs.

Five-star Houston (Texas) North Shore cornerback Devin Sanchez and four-star Philadelphia (Pa) Imhotep Institue EDGE Zahir Mathis headline the defensive class. Four-star Baltimore (Md) St. Frances Academy cornerback Blake Woodby and three-star Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban linebacker Eli Lee round out the class.

Lowe is the third pledge to Ohio State in January.

Ohio State landing Carter Lowe is a massive win for the Buckeyes for two reasons. First, because it kept an in-state prospect home when Michigan was a threat. Second, the Buckeyes have struggled to land a bonafide offensive tackle in recent years. They now have one with Lowe.

It’s only the beginning for Ohio State and Carter Lowe, but the in-state tackle has committed to the scarlet and gray.
