COLUMBUS — Ohio State has been on a recruiting tear throughout January. Whether it’s on the high school trail or through the transfer portal, the Buckeyes have been aggressive ever since the calendar flipped to 2024.

And it looks like that run isn’t finished just yet. Four-star Toledo (Ohio) Whitmer offensive tackle Carter Lowe has set his commitment date for this Saturday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. Lowe is the No. 9 offensive tackle and the No. 88 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings. On3 has Lowe as the No. 13 offensive tackle and the No. 172 overall prospect.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle has a final five of Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

Lowe is fresh off his eighth Ohio State visit. He and his parents arrived on campus Saturday morning and spent the day primarily with offensive line coach Justin Frye. The relationship between Frye and the entire Lowe family is second to none on the recruiting trail.

“Even in the beginning of my recruitment, I talked to Ohio State a lot more than other places which I’ve always liked,” he said. “I’ve been a priority for them. They definitely from the jump had separated themselves.”

Lowe visited Ohio State three times this past fall. He was on campus for the Western Kentucky, Maryland and Penn State games. That span of time is seemingly where Ohio State separated from the pack of contenders.

Lettermen Row spoke with Lowe the week after his visit for the Penn State game where he alluded to such.

“It was a packed game and I didn’t get to talk to Coach Justin Frye as much as I have before,” Lowe told Lettermen Row. “But even if I’m not sitting there talking to him the whole time, I still know how he feels about me and I know how I feel about him.

“And I like that reassurance a lot. From other colleges, I’m not getting that for sure. Ohio State does a great job talking to me, staying on top of me and I like that a lot about them.”

Should Lowe pick the Buckeyes on Saturday, he will be third in-state pledge in the 2025 class. Four-star Bellefontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair and three-star Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban linebacker Eli Lee are the Ohioans in the class — so far.

Lowe would be the first offensive lineman in the class as well.
