The Early-Signing Period is here and Ohio State is set to once again bring in one of the country’s best recruiting classes. Lettermen Row is tracking the Buckeyes recruiting news throughout the signing period as 2024 commitments officially join the Ohio State football program. The latest Letter of Intent is in: Damarion Witten has signed with the Buckeyes.

COLUMBUS — If there was one position group that gave Ohio State zero headaches on the recruiting trail this cycle, it was tight end.

The Buckeyes have two heading their way and one of those two is Damarion Witten.

He just signed his letter of intent and made official on his verbal commitment. But what does it mean for Ohio State?

Lettermen Row breaks it down.

Who is Damarion Witten?

Damarion Witten is a three-star tight end from Cleveland, Ohio, and played his high school career at Glenville High School.

He is a two-time Division IV state champion and a two-time First-Team All-State player. Witten held over 25 offers but chose Ohio State over Kentucky, Michigan, Texas and more.

Witten is the second tight end committed in the Buckeyes class. He joined Max LeBlanc in June during his official visit.

How did Witten end up at Ohio State?

Damarion Witten took the state by storm during his junior season. He was a mismatch nightmare for opposing programs as Glenville played its way toward its first state championship in program history.

Witten has lined up at wide receiver, tight end, running back and wildcat quarterback. His versatility caught the attention of Ohio State with its ever-expanding offensive prowess.

The Buckeyes and Witten were patient with each other during the recruiting process. But eventually, the offer came and with that Witten made an official visit. It was during that visit that he committed.

“It means a lot,” Witten told On3 when he committed. “Just me staying home and playing for all the fans in Columbus it’s a blessing. I’ve been dreaming about this since I was a baby, and you know what the actual saying is “THE BEST IN OHIO STAY IN OHIO.”

Witten, unlike his high school and now college teammate Bryce West, will not be an early enrollee. He is in the beginning of his basketball season, but will take every opportunity to visit Columbus when he can.
