COLUMBUS — Ohio State, in another recruiting cycle, has swung and missed on one of its biggest offensive targets.

Five-star Bradenton (Fla) IMG Academy offensive tackle Jordan Seaton has committed to Colorado. Seaton chose the Buffaloes over Ohio State, Tennesse, Alabama, Oregon, Maryland, Florida and others.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound prospect is the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 6 overall prospect according to On3. Seaton is the No. 1 offensive tackle by nearly every major recruiting service.

His decision to commit to Colorado is a massive blow to Ohio State and the Buckeyes once again miss out on a major offensive tackle prospect. The program has a dire need for an elite offensive tackle to bolster the depth within the room in Columbus.

Four-star New Palestine (Ind) offensive tackle Ian Moore is certainly one of the best in the country, but a guy like Seaton has real plug-and-play capabilities. Four-star Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward offensive tackle Deontae Armstrong also is in the Buckeyes 2024 class, but will need to develop.

Seaton was in Columbus this past weekend for his long-awaited official visit. Even though the trip did end up with Seaton committing to Ohio State, his eyes were opened up to what the program is about.

“The biggest highlight for me was the position availability they will have next year,” Seaton told On3. “There are a lot of seniors on the team and a lot of guys they call developmental guys that will take another year or two to have a chance. They think I am a plug-in-and-play type of guy. That is important for everybody, but sometimes you don’t want to get on the field too early because you can make rookie mistakes.”

He continued

“I left feeling pretty good about them,” Seaton said. “We still have to keep communicating, keep talking and keep it going. What keeps Ohio State in the mix is their development. They take pride in their development. I have said all year that I want to be developed by the best. They want to take a five-star and make him a 10-star. They take pride in development.”

There is some speculation that even though Seaton has committed to Colorado, that doesn’t necessarily mean he will sign with the program in Boulder. The early signing period opens up on Dec. 20, less than two weeks away.

Ohio State will continue to recruit Seaton as if he’s not committed. But for now, he’s heading for Prime.
