COLUMBUS — Ohio State freshman linebacker Gabe Powers shed his black stripe Tuesday morning, officially becoming a part of the program ahead of the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Powers is the fourth Buckeyes freshman to do so during Peach Bowl practice.

Powers has appeared in just two games this season, scattering a combined five special teams snaps against Toledo and Wisconsin, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Marysville, Ohio, native was one of 14 freshmen in Ohio State’s 2022 class to enroll mid-year. The former four-star recruit stands 6-foot-4, 228 pounds. He was the No. 9 linebacker in the 2022 cycle and the No. 7 overall prospect in Ohio in the 2022 class.
