5-Star Folsom (Calif.) quarterback Ryder Lyons is the top uncommitted quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class, but that won’t be the case for much longer. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound passer will come off the board next week and has set a commitment date for June 24, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Lyons is ranked the No. 17 player nationally, the No. 5 quarterback and the No. 3 prospect in California according to the On3 Industry ranking.

As a junior in 2024 he threw for 3,011 yards and 46 touchdowns against six interceptions. He also rushed for 585 yards and two touchdowns on 118 carries while leading Folsom to a 12-2 overall record. The Bulldogs went a perfect 7-0 in Sierra Football League play.

One of the top passers in the country took his official visit to Oregon last weekend as the stars continue to flock to Eugene this month during official visit season. Now he’ll take his last official visit to BYU this weekend, as his commitment is shaping up to be a battle between the Ducks and the Cougars, where his father Tim Lyons played college football.

The Northern California arm has always spoken highly of Oregon and offensive coordinator Will Stein, who’s gotten plenty of face time around Lyons dating back to the spring and throughout his recruitment.

“They were there for a while, almost three, four hours” Lyons said of a spring visit to Folsom from the Oregon staff. “We watched a bunch of tape. We watched basically every single game I’ve played. Went through it all with the O-line coach (A’lique Terry), Coach Stein and Coach (Drew) Mehringer. It was great also. Just enjoy being around them.”

The Ducks are trending on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but BYU has started to land more top football prospects in the NIL era of recruiting and shouldn’t be counted out of this race.

Lyons will take a one-year mission trip with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints upon graduating early in the winter and join his school of choice for the 2027 college football season.
