Oregon star wideout Troy Franklin has officially etched his name in the school record books.

During the Ducks’ 49-13 win over Arizona State on Saturday, Franklin caught eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. In the process, he broke two program records.

Franklin’s second touchdown was his 13th of the season, surpassing Josh Huff and Jeff Maehl for the UO single-season record. Franklin also broke Dillon Mitchell’s (2018) record of 1,184 receiving yards.

“He’s incredible,” Oregon quarterback Bo Nix said of Franklin. “His approach to the game — he’s just so hard to guard and he moves around all game. He’s inside and outside. His routes are really good. He’s so smart and he just makes plays. He’s consistent. He’s just always there. He’s always there when you need him.”

Through 11 games, Franklin has caught 68 passes for 1,221 yards and 13 touchdowns. He now sits in fourth place all-time for receptions by an Oregon receiver in a single season and needs just 10 more to surpass Maehl and Samie Parker, who are tied at 77.

During Dan Lanning’s postgame press conference, a reporter suggested that Franklin is possibly the greatest receiver in program history.

“Best receiver in the nation too, right? This guy is the definition of consistency right now,” Lanning said. “The quarterback knows exactly where he’s going to be and he’s always there when the ball is thrown his way. He catches it and then he can turn a normal comeback route into a big gain. He’s a special player who comes to work, who wants that ownership of what it means to be an elite receiver and is owning that every day.”

A former 4-star recruit in the 2021 class, Franklin was Oregon’s third-highest-rated receiver signee in program history when he arrived in Eugene.

He emerged as the Ducks’ unquestioned No. 1 receiver as a true sophomore in 2022 and earned second-team all-conference honors. During the offseason, Franklin worked to fine-tune the nuances of his game and has seen his production skyrocket this fall.

“It starts with talent. Troy has special talent, right?” Lanning said on Oct. 16 when asked what makes Franklin so effective. “But beyond that, Troy’s a guy where, on the flight heading back from the game on Saturday, he’s texting me the things he knows he wants to do better and what he wants to improve on — where he’s gonna be better for the team and be better for himself. And I think that’s just part of it. You gotta stay hungry. And he’s been a guy that’s been really hungry this year to be the best version of himself.”
