Penn State has added another running back to its Class of 2026 as the February National Signing Day approaches. Middletown (Del.) three-star prospect Amare Glover has committed to the Nittany Lions, he announced on Friday morning. Glover will join the program as a preferred walk-on.

“Amare has been an excellent kid to coach for four years,” said Bryan Johnson, Middletown’s offensive coordinator and running backs coach. “He’s a phenomenal leader, explosive back with a great frame at 6-foot, 210 pounds.. The classroom has always been really good, maintaining a 3.4GPA throughout high school.

“He’s a four-year varsity running back who also returns kicks. He shared the room with two other all-state running backs in Hanif Miller and Makai Walker. As a senior, Amare was named an all-state running back and Maxwell Award winner for Middletown. He helped us win two state championships in his junior and senior year. He has exceptional qualities that will allow him to be successful at the next level.”

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound prospect was a two-time all-state selection for Middletown. The Cavaliers were 10-3 in 2025, but their three losses came as a result of an out-of-conference schedule that included Bishop Watterson out of Ohio, Red Bank Catholic from New Jersey and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Maryland.

Middletown, who produced former Penn State star wideout Chris Godwin over a decade ago, wrapped up a state title with a 28-14 win over Salesianum in November. Glover finished with 62 carries for 662 yards and nine touchdowns. He also had 154 yards receiving on nine receptions, scoring two receiving touchdowns. On speical teams, Glover averaged 39.4 yards per kick return.

Glover is the No. 133 running back in the Class of 2026 and the No. 10 prospect in Delaware according to the Rivals Industry rankings. He’s rated a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports. During the recruiting process, he picked up offers from Arizona, Duke, Maryland, Old Dominion, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and others.

Middletown and Glover were regular visitors under the old staff at Penn State. He camped for the Nittany Lions back in July of 2024 and visited for multiple games.

Penn State’s Running Back situation in 2026

Penn State had a ton of turnover in the running back room following the 2025 season. Assistant coach Stan Drayton is now at South Carolina, and new hire Savon Huggins will be tasked with replacing not only Kayton Allen and Nick Singleton, but also departed scholarship athletes Tikey Hayes (undecided), Jabree Coleman (South Carolina) and Corey Smith (Toledo), as well as walk-ons Tyler Holzworth and Amiel Davis, who both completed their eligibility. Here’s a peak at the new-look Penn State running back room for 2026.
