It was an eventful week at Blue White Illustrated for Penn State recruiting. As I do every week, I’m hosting a chat on the BWI premium message board about the week that was. Here’s a list of what we covered and a preview of what is to come next week.

First, three-star cornerback for the Class of 2023, Lamont Payne, joined the BWI Daily Edition to discuss his recruitment, game, and outlook on football. He also gave insight into who he’s trying to recruit to Happy Valley on the defensive side of the ball.

On3 Director of Scouting: “Penn State is pacing to sign one of the best offensive line classes in the country”

Penn State recruiting for 2023 stayed in the spotlight with a four-star offensive lineman from Wyomissing, Jven Williams, who received the fifth star from On3. He’s officially the fourth five-star player for Penn State in the last two classes. On top of that, he is a vital part to a sensational class of linemen, according to Director of Scouting Charles Power,

“Jven Williams and Alex Birchmeier give the Nittany Lions two of the top five or six offensive line prospects in what looks to be a strong cycle at the position.”

Not only did Blue White Illustrated get inside information on Williams from former NFL lineman Ross Tucker, who helped him with his recruiting process, we were also ahead of the discussion. Earlier this week I built an offensive line from the pieces available in the Class of 2023 and pointed out his tackle potential.

The class is far from complete, and the defensive side of the ball took center stage when examining Penn State’s top three linebacker prospects for ’23. Four-star linebackers Ta’mere Robinson, Phil Picciotti, and Tony Rojas could make one of the best complimentary trios that Penn State recruited at the position. Here’s a breakdown of how they’d fit together.

Coming up next week…

Finally, here’s a quick preview of BWI’s next player interview with three-star lineman from Virginia, Joshua Miller. We discuss a wide range of topics, from Penn State’s recruiting efforts on the offensive line, to how he plays. Yet his words to end the show stuck out the most.

He mentioned psychology when asked what he wanted to study at Penn State. So here’s his reasoning.

“I like helping people because I understand going through depression and all types of struggles. So I just like to help people when I feel like I can. You know, you need someone to listen to what you’re going through and give you a little bit of feedback…So I just feel like I can help the world and help some people deal with things better than they are.”

Like Payne, Miller presents himself as a very confident, mature young man with a great perspective on himself and the world. You won’t want to miss his segment on the BWI Daily Edition coming up next week.
