Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Caleb Johnson committed to SMU after his official visit this weekend, he announced. The Mustangs now have four new offensive linemen coming in via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Johnson was a four-star recruit in the 2021 signing class. He primarily operated with the third-team offensive line in 2022. He’ll have three years of eligibility left at SMU.

After not playing as a freshman, Johnson made his collegiate debut late in the 2022 season against USC. He’s the son of Aaron Johnson, who played offensive line at Ball State and then for eight seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Johnson played high school football at Trinity Catholic (Fla.) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 344 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Johnson joins an impressive SMU transfer class. A large Miami contingent is headed to the Hilltop, including offensive lineman Jakai Clark, wide receiver Key’Shawn Smith, defensive lineman Jordan Miller, defensive lineman Elijah Roberts, running back Jaylan Knighton and wide receiver Romello Brinson.

Texas State tight end Micah Hilts, Texas punter Isaac Pearson, Colorado defensive back Keyshon Mills, North Texas defensive end Cam Robertson, Temple linebacker Kobe Wilson, Texas offensive lineman Logan Parr, Texas A&M offensive lineman PJ Williams and running back LJ Johnson, Liberty transfers Chris Megginson and Ahmad Walker, Fresno State transfer defensive back Cale Sanders, Missouri transfer offensive lineman Hyrin White, Iowa quarterback transfer Alex Padilla, West Virginia transfer defensive back Charles Woods and Stanford defensive back Jonathan McGill are the other transfer additions for SMU.
