Curtis Riser Back, Better Than Ever
"I worked my butt off to get here. The knee feels good and I feel like I am back once again," Riser said. "When I am out there, I don't even think about it. Things are coming back naturally and I am just playing. It was great to come out here and compete and do well."Riser had his first surgery back in July and played through some pain as a junior. He recognized the fact that it wasn't getting better and asked for help."After the season I went to my coach and told him I need to have another surgery," Riser said. "So I had it a few months ago and I feel real good."Obviously. Riser was impressive, especially in one-on-one drills against some talented defensive line prospects. He took 15 reps, won 14 and was named the offensive line MVP."Curtis is the most sound offensive linemen I have seen this spring," said Tyler McClaughry, an offensive line coach at the Nike camps. "His technique is the best I have seen. Curtis has great feet and he has that animal instinct. He loves getting after it."The one battle he lost was to defensive tackle Marrick Charles (Destrehan, La./Destrehan). Charles got him with a swim move, but then Riser beat him on the next rep."Me and him had some battles, some good battles," Charles said. "That guy was really good. I was just happy to get him once."Riser, who's 6-foot-3½ and 290 pounds, plays left tackle for his high school team, but will slide inside at Texas."I am not that 6-7 guy that they love to have at Texas to play tackle," Riser said. "So I will be a guard even though I play tackle in high school. It's OK with me. When I come to stuff like this, I play guard. I am always trying to work on it so I can be ready to go once I get there. I have stuff to work on, just like everyone else."
