LIVE UPDATES: Texas battles Penn State in the NCAA Tournament's second round

Texas is looking to advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the eleventh time in program history. The only thing standing in the Longhorns’ way is a matchup with the No. 10 seed Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Longhorns, the No. 2 seed in the Midwest region, cruised past No. 15 seed Colgate on Thursday night in an 81-61 win. Led by Jabari Rice’s 23 points in 28 minutes, Texas shot 53% from the field and 57% from three-point range. Entering the game as the No. 1 three-point shooting team in the country, Colgate made just 3-of-15 from distance and made it to the free-throw line only nine times.
Rodney Terry’s team had scoring contributions from Dylan Disu (17 points), Marcus Carr (17 points) and Tyrese Hunter (10 points). Disu also pulled down nine rebounds.

Second half
65-60 Texas 0:41 – Disu makes this game his, and the Nittany Lions begin to play the foul game. Rice steps to the line with 20.7 seconds left and hits both. Pickett misses a desperation layup and Marcus Carr heads to the line. He misses the front end. Lundy hits a three and is fouled. Carr is fouled he hits both. Texas wins 71-66.
61-58 Texas 2:02 – Penn State commits a turnover out of the timeout. Marcus Carr then makes it a 5-point game with an 8-0 Texas run. Lundy is fouled by Rice. Nothing results and Hunter grabs the board. Dylan Disu with a bucket. Winter scores and PSU calls a timeout.
58-55 Penn State 4:42 – Disu with a jump stop and layup for his 20th point out of the timeout. Penn State then travels on the other end. Texas then travels in a similar fashion. Disu then scores again to take the lead. Dylan Disu makes another to make it a three point game. Six straight for Disu. 61-58 Texas 2:02
55-48 Texas 7:58 – Disu misses a bucket out of the timeout late in the shot clock. Allen commits a foul. Nothing doing for PSU, but Rice misses a transition three on the other end. Dread then hits a three in transition and Texas commits a foul with 7:03 left. PSU misses the free throw. Allen then drives baseline and can’t make it. Pickett passes to himself and then draws a foul. Dread then makes a three to make it a one-point game. Rice misses a drive, but Pickett commits his fourth foul. Carr misses a shot. Hunter commits a foul and Winter goes to the line. He hits both and PSU takes the lead. 8-0 run by PSU. Lundy scores off a Texas turnover. 58-55 Penn State 4:42
47-39 Texas 11:45 – Texas misses yet another three-point attempt, but so does PSU. Allen misses again on the offensive end. Funk then drives and makes it to cut it to 6. Bishop is fouled going up for a shot. He makes 1-of-2. PSU drives and Hunter commits a foul on Winter, with the Nittany Lions making 1-of-2. Rice is fouled after a nice baseline cut. Rice makes 2-of-2 at the stripe. Lundy then hits a three to make it a four-point game. Allen responds with a nice bucket to make it 52-46. Funk responds with a basket. Rice hits the first three of the game for the Longhorns. 55-48 Texas 7:58
43-39 Texas 13:25 – Christian Bishop with a bucket on the rebound for a needed response. It’s Texas’ 8th offensive board. Carr then hits a two pointer in the lane to make it an eight point game. 47-39 Texas 11:45
39-32 Texas 15:44 – Rice hits a floater out of the timeout, his 6th point. Funk then hits a three and makes it a 6 point game. Disu with another bucket to push the lead back to 8. Funk cuts and its a six point game. Carr misses an elbow jumper. Pickett then gets an open layup and it’s a four point game. Rodney Terry uses a timeout. 43-39 Texas 13:25

31-23 Texas 20:00 – Dylan Disu drives and scores for the first bucket of the second half, it’s Texas’ 20th point in the paint. Pickett scores on the drive and is fouled by Allen. Pickett misses the three-point attempt. Hunter drives off the handoff from Disu and scores another layup. PSU’s Andrew Funk hits a three after a scramble. Mitchell hits his first bucket on an easy bucket in the paint. Disu with another bucket in the lane. A great fadeaway shot from PSU makes it 39-30. First half
23-20 Texas 3:48 – Carr assessed a shooting foul guarding Pickett. He only hits one of two. Carr misses a shot on the other end, but so does Pickett. Disu makes a shot off the inbound, he has 8 points. Disu then nets an offensive board and the basket to make it 27-21. PSU scores in the fast break. Disu is balling out, has 12 points in the midrange. 18 points in the paint for Texas. In a final shot scenario, Carr sinks a jumper. 31-23 Texas
13-11 Texas 7:28 – PSU hits both free throws out of the break. Rice responds with a layup in the half-court. A failed alley-oop attempt leads to an Allen bucket on the other end of the floor. Pickett drives to the cup and takes advantage of switching to score. Rice responds on the other end following a signature pump-fake. PSU comes down with a bucket in the lane from Wynter. Disu then comes right back with a score. Penn State then makes a three-pointer in rotation via Dread. Allen hits an elbow jumper to make it a three-point game. 23-20 Texas 3:48
11-6 Texas 11:45 – PSU makes a three to make it 11-9 out of the timeout. Jabari Rice misses a floater on the other end after great rebounding effort from Allen. Texas has missed several consecutive shots but is getting good looks. Two points in 6+ minutes for Texas. Texas records another empty possession and is approaching seven minutes without a point. PSU hits a tough runner in the lane to tie the game at 11. Hunter gets to the rim and lays it in to break the stretch without a point. Longhorns commit a foul ahead of the break. 13-11 Texas 7:28
9-4 Texas 15:10 – PSU misses a shot off the start, and another, before Texas gets a defensive rebound. Christian Bishop, on the other end, misses a turnaround. Camren Wynter makes a midrange jumper. PSU and Texas exchange several misses, including an open three from Rice. Neither team has made a three through seven minutes. Disu assists Allen on a cut after forcing another turnover. 11-6 Texas 11:45
20:00 – Penn State wins the tip but misses an open three on the first possession. Dylan Disu does the same on the other end. After another stop, Timmy Allen makes one at the line, then travels on the offensive rebound. PSU scores when Jaden Pickett drives down, and Disu responds with a midrange. Another bucket from PSU draws a response from Disu with another bucket. Disu has been giving active minutes on both ends of the floor and has been a staple of the offense and defense. Hunter cuts and scores after a Nittany Lion turnover. Carr then scores to make it 9-4 Texas after another PSU miss. Allen commits a blocking foul on the other end. 9-4 Texas 15:10

Texas and Penn State have never played on the hardwood before. Texas beat Colgate 81-61 in a first ever meeting between the two teams in the round of 64 Thursday. Penn State topped Texas A&M for their opening round win.
