Now that spring football has ended for Texas, what’s next?

Coaches have a good idea of where the roster is and the holes that need to be filled. They know if they need to go to the portal or can wait on a high school guy depending on what they have on campus and what they need improvement on right away.

But what’s the plan for the program?

“Coaches are going to go recruit in May,” Steve Sarkisian said after the spring game. “These guys are going to get a little time off. But I know when we come back in June, there are things that we want to fine-tune and really drill down upon and get better at.”

Coaches will be hitting the road to do in-person spring evaluations on players they have offered or want to look closer at. Just like in early January when coaches hit the road to see prospects, these couple of weeks gives them an opportunity to see kids up close and personal going through football drills and practicing rather instead of listening to them talk and watching them lift weights.

This is where some players will separate themselves on the recruiting board and possibly even gain offers. You tend to see a lot of younger guys in the classes of 2026 through 2028 get offers in the spring because they are the next generation of recruits to know, so don’t be surprised to see a few go out.

For those guys on the “bubble” that the staff has been looking at, this is their chance to prove they deserve an offer by the way they practice and play. Some kids who for one reason or another are not able to make it to campus get the chance to meet coaches in person. These next few weeks also gives them a chance to show coaches their skills and how big and tall they actually are. Those heights and weights are then noted in their profiles with individual schools.

For the kids who have a Texas offer already, this is a chance to prove why they received that offer in the first place and claim a higher position on the recruiting board (especially if that offer is non-committable at this time).

The players currently on the team will finish the spring semester, trying to graduate or make sure their grades are in order ahead of the summer. They’ll probably hit the weight room heavy with plans crafted by Torre Becton and catch up with skills trainers to perfect their craft. They will work on things based on the feedback they received from 1-on-1 talks with Sarkisian and their position coaches, and also try to watch a ton of film on their own to get better.

Post-spring is just as important as spring practices or anything else. Football never stops, so improving and trying to get better should never stop.
