Texas adds another in 2017

For UT's Class of 2017, tight end No. 2 is in the bag.
Texas head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns added Jenks (Oklahoma) 3-star and former Nebraska commit Reese Leitao tonight. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end visited UT weeks ago and left impressed by the staff and Austin. Leiato holds 21 offers, notably from Penn State, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Utah among others.
The most important may have been the Houston offer. That's when this new UT staff started building the relationship with Leiato and his family, whose father is the head basketball coach at DePaul. When Resse visited on December 9th three days after being offered by UT, he felt he could be a natural tight end for Texas in how Herman's offensive philosophy uses the position. It's such a vital part of the overall scheme, coupled with the lack of talent currently on the 40 Acres, he'll still likely redshirt.
Leitao's testing numbers are nice and balanced: 4.6 (40), 4.4 (shuttle), 33.5 (vertical), 39.5 (powerball), and 270 pounds (bench). Take a look at his highlights.
How he fits at Texas: How he fits at Texas: Leitao is a fantastic prospect for the TE/Hammer-back role at Texas that Geoff Swaim and Caleb Bluiett filled before him. He excels grappling and blocking in-line and has some nice tape at DE where he does a lot of damage by beating blocks en route to the ball. Like Bluiett, he's actually fairly fluid in space as well with some pretty good hands to boot. He'd be great at the role of doing dirty work in the trenches but would also be worthy of some play-action or red zone looks in the passing game if teams don't pay him enough mind. - IB

He joins Derek Kerstetter (SA Reagan), Daniel Young (Spring Westfield), Cade Brewer (Lake Travis), Joshua Rowland (MGCCC, Juco), Toneil Carter (Langham Creek), Taquon Graham (Temple), Montrell Estell (Hooks), Kobe Boyce (Lake Dallas), Damion Miller (John Tyler), Sam Ehlinger (Austin Westlake), and Josh Thompson (Nacogdoches).
