The 6-foot-3, 200-pound signal-caller was named the Maxwell Player of the Week by the Maxwell Football Club, the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week by the Davey O’Brien Foundation, and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week for his performance in the Longhorns’ week two victory over Alabama, the organizations announced on Tuesday.

The Southlake (Texas) Carroll product completed 24-of-38 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns to guide No. 4 Texas to a 34-24 victory over then-No. 3 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, its first road win over a top-3 team since 1969.

Ewers also earned Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors and was named a Manning Star of the Week for his performance that snapped Alabama’s 21-game home winning streak. It also stuffed Alabama’s 57-game regular-season winning streak against non-conference teams.

The Maxwell Football Club was founded in 1935 and is the oldest football organization of its kind in America. The Club recognizes excellence in performance at the high school, collegiate and professional levels of the game. The Maxwell Club is also deeply involved and fully vested in the community through programs to promote academic excellence, community volunteerism, and leadership. High school student-athletes around the country have an opportunity to participate in MFC Showcase events, free of charge, through the generosity of our corporate partners, Ivy Rehab, SAFR, the ETC Foundation and the Run Around Inc.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which is named after 1977 Heisman Trophy winner and Longhorn Legend Earl Campbell, is given annually to the top offensive player in the FBS who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Campbell – integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity. In addition, it is limited to players who were born in the state of Texas, attended a high school in Texas or attended a Texas junior college or university.
