Texas ranked 2nd in preseason SEC Poll, Madison Booker named player of the year

In the SEC preseason polls, Texas is predicted to place second to South Carolina once again. The Gamecocks were by far the biggest obstacle for the Horns last year, defeating Texas three different times including in the Final Four.

Here is the projected finish for the SEC:

- Vanderbilt
- Kentucky
- Alabama
- Mississippi State

- Missouri
- Texas A&M
- Auburn
- Arkansas
The SEC also released their preseason player of the year and first and second All-SEC teams.
Texas’ Madison Booker was voted to be the SEC preseason player of the year.
She averaged 16.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, and 1.6 spg and took home the SEC player of the year award for the 2024-25 season. She was also a first-team All-American.
The full preseason first-team All-SEC squad is:
- Flau’Jae Johnson, LSU
- Raegan Beers, Oklahoma
- Joyce Edwards, South Carolina
- Madison Booker, Texas
- Mikayla Blakes, Vanderbilt
Texas also had a player on the second team in point guard Rori Harmon. The veteran has been a large part of Texas’ recent success, with excellent defense and a great ability to distribute the ball.
The full preseason second-team All-SEC squad is:

- Mikaylah Williams, LSU
- Cotie McMahon, Ole Miss
- Ta’Niya Latson, South Carolina
- Talaysia Cooper, Tennessee
- Rori Harmon, Texas
The three top-ranked teams—South Carolina, Texas, and LSU—all have a first and second teamer, with the rest of the top eight each having one player on a team.

If Booker and Harmon play as well as they have in past seasons, Texas will once again be a very dangerous team. But, they will need a lot of help, especially offensively, if Texas wants to truly compete for a national title.
