The Texas defense pitched a shutout against Sam Houston State on Saturday night from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, per PFF. Here’s the defensive grades.

DEFENSE

DL/EDGE – Cole Brevard, 82.1, Hero Kanu63.3, Trey Moore, 59.4Maraad Watson,67.8, Colin Simmons, 65.9, Lance Jackson, 74.3, Lavon Johnson, 73.9, Brad Spence, 61.3, Smith Orogbo, 86.2, Colton Vasek, 74.5

The Texas defensive front was way too much size and speed for the Bearkats could handle on Saturday. Multiple contributors including Jackson (2 tackles, 1 sack), Moore (1 tackle, 1 sack). Brevard (2 tackles), Johnson (2 tackles), and Simmons (2 tackles, one sack). This group is ridiculously deep.

LB – Anthony Hill Jr69.4, Liona Lefau, 63.7, Tyanthony Smith, 58.2

The trio combined for 11 tackles, with Smith leading the defense with five stops. Hill added a tackle for loss.

CB – Malik Muhammad, 67.5, Jaylon Guilbeau, 67.4Kade Phillips, 63.2

The corners did their job with youth being served on Saturday. Phillips led the corners with two stops and one pass breakup.

S/N – Michael Taaffe, 77.5, Graceson Littleton, 71.7Jelani McDonald75.1, Wardell Mack, 68.9

The safeties and nickel play continues to shine. McDonald led the secondary with three tackles, one tackle for loss, and one highly athletic interception. Littleton played Star and corner, where his versatility continues to stand out.
